Help
Save our River Rights! The next "Upper Pitt
River" battle is upon us.
Much
like the Upper Pitt River - saved earlier this year from private river
power
development by tremendous public outcry - Harrsion Lake and its famed
hot
springs are a local ecological treasure and favorite
vacation destination...Well,
not for long, if Cloudworks Energy Inc. - the largest holder of private
river
power licenses in BC today - gets its way and builds a major
90-Megawatt
private river power project in the nearby Kwalsa/Upper Stave area.
The project,
which would consist of 6 different river diversions amid important fish
and
wildlife habitat, is set to receive $35 million of federal funding as
"renewable"
energy. This mega-project comes on top of three Cloudworks
projects already
under construction - plus four more recent proposals and numerous
other applications around
the lake from Cloudworks and other private power companies.
These projects
that are already being built and several active proposals are all
documented
in "Up the Mountain" -
the third installment of Save Our Rivers
Society's groundbreaking documentary series POWERPLAY
on
the theft of BC's rivers and public power.
